Change a Toner or Ink Cartridge
From Linux Schools Project Documentation
In the print management of the server system we do not have a system to allow you to be warned when a cartridge or toner is running low. You will probably have to rely on a member of staff letting you know.
When the ink runs out, or preferably before it does you will need to get the manufacturer name, printer name and the serial code for the cartridge/toner you need to replace. You can then order a new one. Once it has arrived you will have to either look at the documentation that came with the printer or search for it online to find out how to replace the cartridge/toner.
In most printers it is done by:
1. Turn off the printer.
2. Lifting or opening the flap on the top of front the of printer.
3. Pulling out the old toner/cartridge.
4. Removing any wrapping from the new toner/cartridge...don't forget to pull out the tabs on the toner these are normally a bright colour (HP uses Orange) so should be easy to find. Give it a short shake.
5. Push in the new toner/cartridge.
6. Return the flap.
7. Turn on the printer.
The printer should do a self check and all should be working again.
If the printer was half way though a job you will have to resend it to get the rest of the document.
